Fragrance vs. Essential Oils: What You should know about both.

Updated: Nov 17, 2019

We get customers everyday who battle extremely dry and sensitive skin. Unscented soap has been the safe haven for many people who avoid body/face products that are heavily or lightly scented to avoid allergic reactions, or irritations. What I've also found even more disturbing is the tricky use of the term "fragrance" or "scented" or "parfum" when being used to sell their products. But before we get into it, let's do some comparing and contrasting of the two.

Fragrance Oils can sometimes be the culprit of a new rash that appeared out of nowhere, or eczema irritation. Fragrance falls under the "bullsh*t" category that we don't stand by. We promise to only use essential oils to scent our soaps and butters. As of right now, we make 2 unscented bars. See here. Great for those who suffer from dry, annoying, itchy, patchy skin. Soothing for those with eczema and/or psoriasis.

Let's take a look at some examples of what to look out for on the ingredient labels...

In the green box is the correct example of what the "Scientific Name" for Castor Oil and the Lavender Oil is "essential oil". I use that product in my hair, and it gives me so much life! (4C Hair).

Be sure to be mindful of what your products contain. Essential oils have amazing benefits so if your a fellow soap maker or you love using handmade soaps, it's always nice to use products with purpose to heal and soothe. If not, what's the point in using it?
